The Teddy Twins

William and Josie were brother and sister, in fact they were more than that they were twins.

The two teddies loved each other very much and enjoyed playing the same games and doing everything together. You could say they were inseparable.

As babies their mother dressed them alike, except one was in pink and the other in blue. At their local nursery, they played together happily, not wanting to join in with the games of the other boys and girls.

They played with building blocks; they played with the shop, they played with the jigsaws and they played with the toy animals.

Then one day, when the usual question was asked “What shall we play with today.” Josie shouted out “I know let’s play fairies, I’ll be Twinkle, you can be Buttercup. We’ve been invited to the fairy ball and we have to choose our party clothes”

William didn’t like that idea at all. “No” he shouted “let’s play at being footballers and I have just scored the winning goal, you can be the goalkeeper trying to save it”.

Josie didn’t like that idea at all. The two teddies started to quarrel; “fairies” insisted Josie; “footballers” answered William. The other children in the nursery stopped playing their games and looked around at the squabbling twins. It had never happened before, the teddies usually got on so well that the other children had just left them alone to play together they never wanted to play with anyone else.

“Did I hear you say you wanted to play fairies” said Claudia.

“Yes” replied Josie “but William won’t play it with me.”

“I will” said Claudia “it’s my favourite game and Isabel, Maddy, Jessica and Annabel too. We all love putting on our fairy wings and waving our wands about casting spells pretending to be at the fairy ball. Why don’t you come and join us?”

Josie looked over at William who was already in deep conversation with Ben about David Beckham and scoring the winning goal in the World Cup. The door was open to the playground and the next minute William joined Ben, Joseph, George and Jacob running around outside with the football throwing down their jumpers as goalposts. William was over the moon at scoring the first goal.

Josie went over to the corner of the nursery and dug deep into the dressing up box and pulled out the biggest wand she could find. The others quickly joined her putting on wings and fairy dresses.

That afternoon, they had a wonderful time; the fairy party was such fun. They got out the picnic set and made pretend fairy sandwiches and buns, and finally Mrs Farrell came around with milk and biscuits

The boys ran in from the playground their cheeks glowing from all the running around. William was the hero of the afternoon for he had scored 6 goals.

The nursery was full of laughter and chattering about the fun they had that afternoon.

Mrs Farrell sat them all down in a semi-circle to listen to the afternoon story. Josie sat with her new friends and William sat in the middle with his. All too soon it was time to go home and Josie and Williams mum arrived to pick them up.

They chatted excitedly all the way home about their fun afternoon and the new friends they had made. The teddy twins had just enough time for a little play together before their mum shouted them in for tea. What would it be? Building blocks, shop, jigsaw or toy animals.

We will save the fairies and footballers for our next day at nursery, or maybe it will be princesses and pirates?
