Bounce the Bunny

Bounce loved springtime; it was her favourite time of year. The grass was fresh and green, and the spring sunshine warmed the ground, which had been so cold and hard over the winter months.

It was time to come out of the burrow and show off her wonderful pink coat. Most of the other rabbits had the same old boring brown fur coats, but Bounce’s coat was the most beautiful shade of pink. The other bunnies looked on in admiration.

Now, Bounce’s mummy Pearl was a beautiful white rabbit with long elegant whiskers and her daddy Twitcher was a lovely pale grey. Twitcher wasn’t keen on eating grass, he had a great fondness for tomatoes, he loved them, and he would eat them day and night if he could.

“I’m not bothered about carrots. I’m not bothered about grass. Just give me Tomatoes!” he would say.

Not only that but one day while out hopping around the fields he stepped into a big puddle of red paint, which had been dropped by a farmer whilst painting his gate. So Bounce’s mummy to this day insists that is why she came out such a wonderful colour.

The other rabbits were envious of Bounce’s fine coat and sometimes would not let her join in their games of hide and seek, or who could jump the highest. So, she would take herself off and go collecting flowers in the nearby field.

One day she decided to go a little bit further away. She saw in the distance a field full of flowers. It was a blaze of colour. Bounce decided to try to find it, so she hopped further and further away from her home. “Not far now” she said to herself, “nearly there.”

Finally, she arrived at the beautiful field and immediately started picking the sweet smelling flowers. Soon she had her arms full and could not carry anymore.

“Time to go home” she said to herself “what a huge bunch I have collected, now which way do I go?” She started looking around. “Which way did I come?”

She looked over at the green fields in the distance and they all looked the same. “Oh Dear”, she said, “I think I am lost, I can’t find my way home.”

Now over in Bounce’s field, the other rabbits who had not let her play hide and seek with them earlier, were starting to miss her. “Has anyone seen Bounce?” shouted Bobtail.

Not for ages” replied Fluffy. They all agreed they had not seen Bounce for a long time. “Where is she” said Fluffy. Where could she be?” the bunnies started searching for her behind bushes, down burrows, in haystacks and calling her name, but she was nowhere to be seen.

Then all of a sudden, whiskers shouted “LOOK! Over there.” She was pointing into the distance at a bunch of flowers running up and down a field on the other side of the valley. All the other rabbits stopped and stared. Then Fluffy said “It’s got to be Bounce.”

“You’re right, agreed Bobtail “Who else would collect so many flowers.”

“BOUNCE! BOUNCE! BOUNCE!” shouted all the rabbits, trying to get her attention. But it was no good she was too far away to hear. She just kept on running up and down.

“We must help her” said Fluffy. “Yes” said Bobtail, “lets form a line and all go together, so no one gets lost on the way.”

So they form a line and set off to help Bounce. They reached the field of in no time at all. But she was at the top and they were at the bottom.

Bounce was very worried now. The sun would soon be starting to set. What should she do? Then she heard a shout of “Bounce!” it was her friends.

She could not believe it, her friends had come to rescue her. “Fluffy, Bobtail, Whiskers,” she cried “Thank you, thank you all.”

“I saw all the pretty flowers over here and could not resist them, when I had finished picking the flowers. I couldn’t find my way home. All the fields looked the same. I didn’t know what to do.” said a tearful Bounce

“We missed you Bounce” said Bobtail.

“We are so sorry that we didn’t let you play with us” said Fluffy

“We’ve come to show you the way home” said Whiskers.

All the rabbits gathered around her and off they went. They followed the path they had left on the way and quickly made their way safely back home.

Bounce wanted to say a big “Thank you” to all her friends. She thought for a moment and then started to make beautiful necklaces and crowns, from the sweet, bright flowers. All her friends went home as bright and colourful bunnies’ just like Bounce.
