Every Sunday morning Danny and his dad would kiss mum goodbye and head for the park. There were lots of other boys and girls playing in the park but Danny always managed to find somewhere to throw down his jumper and coat to make goal posts.

Danny’s dad was quite good at football, Danny loved to hear the stories of when he played for his school and the fantastic goals he scored, yes his dad was good, but Danny was better! And why? Because of his magic boots of course!!

The boots were a Christmas present and his mum had told him that Santa had sprinkled them with magic dust to make him run faster and score more goals; well it had certainly worked, Danny beat his dad every time they had a race and he always scored at least three goals, then his dad would lift him onto his shoulders and run around the pitch shouting “DANNY THE CHAMPION!!”

Week after week they played, often with other children; sometimes even Danny’s mum would go in goal. In the summer they played on the beach, howling with laughter as they chased the ball which went splashing into the sea.

Danny’s magic boots never let him down, at school he was a hero, everyone wanted to be in Danny’s team.

Soon it was October and Danny’s birthday was near, Danny grew more and more excited, he was having a party at the Sports Centre - a football party of course! All his friends would be there and Mozza Moseley, who played for United was going to come along and coach them.

Mozza was everyone’s favourite and Danny’s Uncle Pete had been best friends with him at school. It would be the best party ever.

On Friday night Danny ran out of school bursting with excitement “See you all tomorrow at the party” he shouted to his friends.

Danny ran all the way home and threw his school bag on the floor. His Mum asked “Where’s your PE bag?” Oh no! In his hurry Danny had left his bag on the peg inside his classroom, and what was in the bag? Yes, Danny’s magic boots!

Danny and his mum ran back to school as fast as they could but it was too late, the building was in darkness, everyone had gone home. Danny’s boots were locked inside.

Danny cried and cried “How can I have a football party without my magic boots?” he wailed, “We’ll have to cancel the party!”

When Danny went to bed that night he was the saddest boy in the world, tomorrow was his birthday and there was nothing he wanted except his old magic boots. When Danny eventually fell asleep his mum put the kettle on and sat down, it was too late to cancel the party, she would have to think of something, as she sipped her tea a wonderful idea came to her…

The next morning Danny woke early, he jumped out of bed running into his mum and dad’s room, and then he remembered about the boots, he climbed into their bed and pulled the covers up over his head.

Suddenly there was a knock on the door; “Why don’t you answer that Danny, It might be the postman for you” said his dad.

Danny opened the door and couldn’t believe his eyes, there on the step stood Mozza Moseley, in his hand a pair of boots just like Danny’s magic boots; “Special delivery for the birthday superstar” he said “And not just any boots- these are my magic boots that I wore when I was your age- now they’re yours.

Danny tried them on, they fitted perfectly. Still in his pyjamas he ran into the garden, he was faster than ever, Mozza kicked the ball to him and Danny kicked it straight passed him into the back of the net. “See you later little fella”, shouted Mozza as he ran down the path and drove away.

That afternoon at the party Danny played football with his friends and of course Mozza Mosely. It was wonderful and Danny even scored a hat trick. He had a football cake with five candles on it, and all his friends sang happy birthday to him. But best of all he had Mozza’s magic boots. It was the best birthday ever!
